Under One Woof started in 2003 as a home-based business called Seiji Morikawa Certified Groomer. As demand for our services began increasing, we started hiring staff and in 2007 moved to a 500 square foot space on Central near Webster (pictured, right). By the middle of 2011, our popularity on the Island had reached a point that our team had grown to four groomers, two bathers and a receptionist and could no longer fit in our tiny shop. But we wanted to stay in West Alameda, so we moved into our new space at 1701 Webster St. in December 2011.
The move finally gave us room to do something we've been wanting to do for a long time – create a special area where well-behaved small and medium-sized dogs can play after being groomed instead of staying in kennels. We were also able to create a home-like, cage-free space to offer daycare and a pet hotel for small and medium-sized dogs. We also arranged for non-anesthetic pet dental and pet photography services. To signify the range of pet services available in one convenient location, we changed the name of the business to Under One Woof.
Many of our original customers are still bringing their dogs and cats to us for grooming and we've been fortunate enough to gain many new customers over the years for grooming and more recently our daycare and pet hotel services. We now have more than 3,000 regular customers and our staff has grown to meet the increased demand. Our team of professional groomers, certified bathers, trained daycare and pet hotel attendants and our receptionist provide the same level of personalized service that we became known for when we were a much smaller operation.
